Club History

The York Boxing Club and Young People's Fitness Centre was established in 1967 at our first home in North St York.

Since then we have moved on two occasions:
Once to the Fith Avenue Gym in York, and the other to the Olympia Club in Selby, with coaches working at the famous St. Pat's ABC which has sadly now closed.

We have produced 27 champions at club level, and three professionals started out as boys with us: British ranked Billy Wilson, three times world champion contender Henry Wharton and British ranking boxer Jamie Warters.

Other notable boxers connected with the club are: Richie Scarth, Pinky Burton, ABAE champion Graham Fern, Academy stars Daniel Gell, Mathew Doyle (both now coaching for us) and Luke Atkin. Coach Gary Kelly is also the current English kick-boxing champion.

We have a solid commitment to working with the young people of the city, and we promote anti-drink/drug/bullying schemes.
